この月の行事・文化
- 食べもの必修 米komerice as the center of the meal ご飯は料理ではなく、食事そのものを指す言葉でもある。
- 現代の暮らし必修 台風taifuthe typhoons that reach Japan each year 年に25個ほど生まれ、3個前後が上陸する。名前ではなく番号で呼ぶ。
- 神道必修 神輿mikoshithe portable shrine carried through the streets at a festival 担いでいるのは神様の乗り物。わざと揺らすのは、乱暴ではなく作法。
- 武道標準 大相撲の本場所honbashothe six official grand sumo tournaments held each year 奇数月に15日間。東京で3回、大阪・名古屋・福岡で1回ずつ。
- 年中行事標準 お月見otsukimimoon viewing in autumn 月にいるのはウサギ。しかも餅をついている。欧米の「男の顔」と対になる話。
- 年中行事標準 敬老の日Respect for the Aged Daythe September holiday honoring older people 九月の第三月曜日。祖父母に電話する日であり、日本の高齢化を毎年数字で確かめる日でもある。
- 年中行事標準 彼岸higanthe weeks around the equinoxes when families visit graves 春分と秋分の前後一週間。日本にしかない仏教行事。
- 食べもの標準 山菜ときのこsansai and mushroomswild vegetables and mushrooms from the mountains 春は山菜の苦み、秋はきのこの香り。山からしか来ない、季節が一週間で動く食材。
- 季節標準 菊kikuchrysanthemum 皇室の紋であり、葬儀の花でもある。同じ花が両方を担っている。
- 季節標準 秋雨前線akisame zensenthe autumn rain front that brings weeks of gray, wet weather 梅雨とよく似た、秋のもう一つの長雨。台風とぶつかると大雨になりやすい。
- 季節標準 線状降水帯senjo kosuitaithe linear rainband that causes Japan's worst flash flooding 同じ場所に何時間も雨雲が並び続ける現象。近年の水害の多くの原因。
- 季節標準 棚田tanadaterraced rice paddies cut into mountain slopes 平地が少ない土地で、斜面そのものを階段状に田んぼにした。
- 季節標準 虫の声を聴くlistening to insect songsenjoying the sound of autumn insects 秋の虫の音を「うるさい」ではなく「風流」と感じる。それは文化で学んだこと。
- 学校生活標準 運動会undokaischool sports day 親が場所取りに朝5時から並ぶ。競技より、組体操と行進が驚かれる。
- 学校生活標準 文化祭bunkasaithe school culture festival クラスごとに模擬店や劇をやる。アニメの定番場面だが、本当にああいうものです。
- 年中行事応用 五節句go-sekkuthe five seasonal festivals of the old calendar 七草、雛祭り、こどもの日、七夕、重陽。ばらばらに見える行事が実は一つの体系。
- 年中行事応用 重陽の節句choyothe chrysanthemum festival of the ninth month 五節句の最後の一つ。菊の花を浮かべた酒で長寿を願う、いちばん廃れた節句。
- 季節応用 獣害jugaicrop damage by deer, boar and bears 鹿と猪が畑を荒らす。里に下りる熊も増えている。
