Your oshi is the one member, performer or character you support above all others, and oshikatsu is everything you do for them: going to shows, buying goods, decorating a shelf, saving up. The word comes from osu, meaning to push or to recommend, so an oshi is the one you push. It is not the same as a crush. Many fans say the real point is having something to look forward to.
「推し」とは、ほかの誰よりも応援している一人のメンバーや演者、キャラクターのことで、「推し活」はその相手のためにする行動すべてを指します。ライブに行く、グッズを買う、棚を飾る、お金を貯める。語源は「推す」、つまり人にすすめることです。恋愛感情とは別のものです。楽しみがあること自体が大事なのだと言うファンが多いです。

Oshikatsu is a word you now hear constantly in Japan. Your oshi is the single member of a group, the actor, the athlete or even the fictional character you have decided to support, and oshikatsu is the activity around that: buying the album, going to the concert, collecting the merchandise, lining up photos and figures on a shelf, and taking one of those figures along on trips to photograph it.
What makes the word useful is that it is not a confession of love. You can tell a coworker who your oshi is without embarrassment, and they will ask how the tour is going.
For a lot of people, especially those with long working hours, it is a socially accepted way to have one thing in life that is purely theirs. I think that is why the word spread so fast.
推し活は、今の日本で本当によく耳にする言葉です。「推し」とは、グループの中の一人、俳優、スポーツ選手、さらには架空のキャラクターでもよく、自分が応援すると決めた相手のことです。
推し活はその周りの活動、つまりアルバムを買い、ライブに行き、グッズを集め、棚に写真やフィギュアを並べ、そのフィギュアを旅行に連れて行って写真を撮ることです。この言葉が便利なのは、愛の告白ではない点です。
同僚に推しは誰かと話しても恥ずかしくなく、相手は今のツアーはどうかと聞いてくれます。とくに労働時間の長い人にとっては、人生に一つだけ純粋に自分のものがあることを、世間に認められた形で持てる方法です。だからこの言葉は急速に広まったのだと思います。

No, and that distinction matters to fans. An oshi is someone you want to succeed and be happy, and most fans have no wish to meet them privately. Treating it as a romantic obsession is the fastest way to offend someone who is telling you about their oshi.
違いますし、ファンにとってはその区別が大事です。推しは成功して幸せでいてほしい相手で、私的に会いたいと思うファンはほとんどいません。恋愛の執着のように扱うのは、推しの話をしている人を怒らせる一番早い方法です。

Yes, completely normally. The word works for an anime character, a voice actor, a racehorse, a rugby player or even a train line. Anything you have chosen to support can be your oshi.
はい、まったくふつうのことです。アニメのキャラクター、声優、競走馬、ラグビー選手、さらには鉄道路線でもかまいません。応援すると決めたものは何でも推しになります。

It can be, and fans talk about that openly. Many set a monthly budget, and magazines run features on how to do oshikatsu without going broke. Others spend nothing at all and simply watch and cheer.
高くつくこともあり、ファンはそのことを率直に話します。月の予算を決める人は多く、破産せずに推し活をする方法という雑誌の特集もあります。まったくお金をかけず、見て応援するだけの人もいます。
誤解されやすい
MYTHOshikatsu is just fangirling, mostly done by teenagers.

YouTube より豆知識
「推し」は「人に推薦する」の「推す」から来ています。もとはアイドルグループの中で誰を一番応援するかを言う言葉でしたが、2020年前後から対象が広がり、俳優、声優、力士、キャラクター、さらには地域や商品にまで使われるようになりました。グループ全体を応援する状態は「箱推し」、推しが引退や活動休止をすることを「卒業」と言います。百貨店が推し活向けの売り場をつくるなど、消費のひとつの型としても扱われています。
