Chorei is the morning assembly, and it exists in both schools and workplaces, which tells you something about how the two are organized. At school, pupils line up by class in the yard or the hall, usually once a week rather than every day, and the principal gives a short talk while everyone stands.
Announcements follow: results from a competition, a reminder about the road outside the school, the week's target. In a company the version is smaller and more practical. A team gathers for a few minutes at the start of the shift, the day's schedule is confirmed, safety points are repeated on a factory floor, and in some companies each person says a word in turn.
Critics point out that a talk delivered to several hundred standing children in summer heat is a poor way to communicate anything, and some schools have shortened or moved it indoors for that reason. What it does well is mark a start. Whatever is said, everyone begins the day at the same moment, and that is largely the function.
朝礼は朝の集まりで、学校にも職場にもあります。その二つがどう組み立てられているかを、よく示しています。学校では、児童生徒が学級ごとに校庭や体育館に並び、たいていは毎日ではなく週に一度、立ったまま校長の短い話を聞きます。そのあとに連絡が続きます。

At school, usually once a week for the whole-school version, with a short homeroom gathering in the classroom on other days. In companies it varies; factories and shops often do it daily, offices often not at all.
学校では、全校で行うものは週に一度が多く、ほかの日は教室での短い朝の会になります。会社では様々で、工場や店舗は毎日行うことが多く、事務の職場では行わないところも多いです。

Standing still in summer heat for a long time is the cause, and it happens often enough that schools now shorten assemblies, hold them indoors, or let pupils sit. Heat guidance has changed practice considerably.

Many do, especially in manufacturing, retail and construction, where a daily safety briefing is genuinely useful. Some also include exercises to music, which has a long history in Japanese workplaces.
