Called Kisha Kisen Ryoko Annai, or "Guide to Travel by Train and Steamship," it put stations, departure times, and fares for trains and steamships across the country into a single book. 2. Bodhidharma's Memorial Day

October 5th is traditionally remembered as the day Bodhidharma died. He was the Indian monk said to have brought Zen to China, and some Zen temples in Japan hold a service for him today.

Q

Do people in Japan still buy paper train timetables?

A

Some people do. A thick timetable book that covers trains all over the country still comes out every month, and the best-known one has been published for about 100 years. Most people just use an app to check their trains now. But train fans love the books, and planning an imaginary trip with one is a hobby of its own.

Trains here almost always leave on time.

「on time」は「時間どおりに」、「in time」は「間に合って」です。 I made it in time for the train.
