Ruby Bridges and the President
In 1960 in New Orleans, six-year-old Ruby Bridges became the first Black child to attend the all-white William Frantz Elementary School. Rockwell based The Problem We All Live With on this event. About 50 years later, in 2011, the grown-up Ruby Bridges looked at the painting together with President Obama at the White House.

Rockwell painted more than 300 covers (323, by most counts) for The Saturday Evening Post over 47 years, from 1916 to 1963. Families all over America looked forward to each new cover.
His 1943 series The Four Freedoms, including Freedom from Want, toured 16 U.S. cities. More than a million people came, and the tour helped sell nearly $133 million in war bonds, according to the museum.
In the lower right of Triple Self-Portrait, smoke rises from a bucket. The museum explains that it refers to the fire that destroyed his studio in Arlington, Vermont, in 1943, about sixteen years earlier.
Rockwell worked as an illustrator for popular magazines.
