Why she painted flowers so big
O'Keeffe once explained that nobody really looks at a flower—it is too small, and people are too busy—so she would paint it big and make them look. She filled her canvases with irises, calla lilies and jimson weed. These paintings caused a sensation in 1920s New York and made her one of America's leading artists.
