Were the clocks inspired by cheese?
Dalí said that one evening, while staring at a runny Camembert cheese after dinner, he came up with the idea of "soft watches." He claimed he finished the painting in just a few hours while his wife Gala was at the cinema. The Persistence of Memory has belonged to MoMA since 1934, and the melting clock became Dalí's personal symbol.

The flower-shaped logo of Chupa Chups lollipops was designed by Dalí in 1969. It is said he also suggested putting the logo on top of the wrapper so it would always be easy to see.
Dalí kept an ocelot—a wild cat from Central and South America—named Babou. He took it on a leash to restaurants and hotels, where it amazed everyone around him.
The melting clocks make the scene look surreal.
