- 南瓜 Pumpkin1994/2022・ベネッセハウス ミュージアム（屋外）（香川県・直島）黒い水玉の黄色い南瓜。1994年の旧作が台風で壊れ、2022年に同じ場所へ復元されました。The yellow pumpkin with black dots, first installed in 1994. After a typhoon damaged it, it was remade and returned to the same spot in 2022.本物を見る

- 集積 No.1 Accumulation No. 11962・ニューヨーク近代美術館（MoMA）（ニューヨーク）いすを、布でできた突起でびっしりおおった立体作品。ポップアートの初期のグループ展にも出ました。An armchair covered all over with stuffed fabric shapes. It was shown in one of the first group shows of Pop Art.本物を見る
水玉に包まれた一生A life wrapped in polka dots
長野県松本市に生まれた草間彌生は、子どものころから、まわりが水玉や網の目でおおわれて見えるような体験をしたと語っています。その水玉を絵や立体、部屋いっぱいにまで広げ、南瓜や鏡の部屋とともに世界中で大人気になりました。ファッションブランドとのコラボでも知られています。2026年8月、97歳で亡くなるまで、作品をつくり続けました。
Born in Matsumoto, Nagano, Kusama said that since childhood she had experienced seeing the world covered with dots and nets. She spread those dots across paintings, sculptures and whole rooms, and with her pumpkins and mirror rooms she became loved worldwide. She was also known for collaborations with fashion brands. She kept making art until she died in August 2026, at the age of 97.

若き日の草間は、アメリカの有名な画家ジョージア・オキーフに思い切って手紙を書きました。返事をもらって勇気を得た草間は、1957年に海をわたり、やがてニューヨークで前衛芸術のスターになっていきます。
As a young artist, Kusama boldly wrote a letter to the famous American painter Georgia O'Keeffe. Encouraged by her reply, Kusama crossed the ocean in 1957 and went on to become a star of the New York avant-garde.
直島の黄色い《南瓜》は、2021年8月の台風で海に流され、こわれてしまいました。草間のスタジオが約半年かけて作り直し、2022年10月に同じ桟橋へもどってきました。新しい南瓜は前より丈夫になり、台風のときはクレーンで動かせる工夫もされています。
Naoshima's yellow Pumpkin was swept into the sea and broken by a typhoon in August 2021. Kusama's studio spent about half a year remaking it, and it returned to the same pier in October 2022. The new pumpkin is stronger and can be moved by crane when a typhoon comes.
Kusama covered everything with polka dots.
