Seimei means "clear and bright." The air is clean, the new leaves are out, and everything looks freshly washed. In Okinawa, families gather at the graves for a picnic called shiimii.
清明は「清らかで明るい」。空気が澄み、新緑が出て、すべてが洗われたように見える。沖縄では墓前で食事をする「シーミー」の行事がある。
