豆知識

米国では年齢を理由にした差別を禁じる法律により、一部の職業を除いて定年制そのものが原則として認められておらず、日本とは大きく異なる。日本では企業に65歳までの雇用確保を義務づけたうえで、70歳までの就業機会の確保も努力義務としている。英語では retirement age だけでも「定年」の意味で通じる。mandatory は「義務的な」という意味で、mandatory military service（兵役義務）のようにも使う。
