A mother goat lived in a little house with her seven young kids. One day she had to go into the forest to get food. "Be careful," she said. "Don't open the door to the wolf. You will know him by his rough voice and his black feet."
Soon someone knocked. "Open the door, dear children. It's your mother." But the voice was rough. "You're not our mother! You're the wolf!"
So the wolf ate some chalk, and his voice became soft. He knocked again. "Open the door, children. It's your mother."
But he put his black foot on the window. "Our mother doesn't have black feet. You're the wolf!"
Then the wolf put white flour on his feet and came back. Soft voice, white feet. The kids opened the door. In came the wolf!
The kids ran and hid. One hid under the table, one in the bed, one in the oven, and the others in other places. The youngest hid in the big clock. The wolf found them one by one and swallowed them whole. But he did not find the youngest. Then, full and happy, he lay down under a tree and fell asleep.
When the mother came home, the youngest kid told her everything. They ran out and found the wolf asleep. Something was moving in his big stomach!
"My children are alive!" cried the mother. She took her scissors and opened the wolf's stomach. One, two, three, four, five, six! All the kids jumped out.
"Now bring some big stones," said the mother. They put the stones in the wolf's stomach, and she sewed it up. The wolf did not wake up.
Later the wolf woke up. He was very thirsty, so he went to the well. But the stones were so heavy that he fell in. SPLASH! The seven kids danced around the well with their mother.
