Once there was a mother pig with three little pigs. One day she said, "You are big now. Go and make your own homes."
むかし、お母さんブタと三匹の子ブタがいました。ある日、お母さんブタは言いました。「おまえたちは、もう大きくなったね。自分の家を作りに行きなさい」
The first little pig met a man with some straw. "Please give me some straw," he said. The man gave it to him, and the pig made a house of straw.
一番目の子ブタは、わらを持った男の人に出会いました。「どうか、わらをください」と、子ブタは頼みました。男の人がわらをくれたので、子ブタはわらの家を作りました。
Soon a wolf came and knocked on the door. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in!"
まもなくオオカミがやって来て、扉をノックしました。「子ブタくん、子ブタくん、中に入れておくれ！」
"No, no! Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!"
「いやだ、いやだ！ あごのおひげにかけて、絶対に入れるもんか！」
"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in!" So the wolf huffed and puffed, and the straw house fell down. The little pig ran away as fast as he could.
「それなら、ふうっと吹いて、ぷうっと吹いて、おまえの家を吹き飛ばしてやる！」そう言ってオオカミがふうっと吹いて、ぷうっと吹くと、わらの家は倒れてしまいました。子ブタは、一目散に逃げていきました。
The second little pig made a house of sticks. The wolf came again. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in!"
二番目の子ブタは、木の枝で家を作りました。またオオカミがやって来ました。「子ブタくん、子ブタくん、中に入れておくれ！」
"No, no! Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" So the wolf huffed and puffed, and the stick house fell down, too. The second pig ran away very fast.
「いやだ、いやだ！ あごのおひげにかけて、絶対に入れるもんか！」そこでオオカミがふうっと吹いて、ぷうっと吹くと、木の枝の家も倒れてしまいました。二番目の子ブタも、大急ぎで逃げていきました。
The third little pig made a house of bricks. It was hard work, but the house was strong. The wolf came. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in!"
三番目の子ブタは、れんがで家を作りました。大変な仕事でしたが、とても頑丈な家ができました。オオカミがやって来ました。「子ブタくん、子ブタくん、中に入れておくれ！」
"No, no! Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" The wolf huffed and puffed, and puffed and huffed. But the brick house did not fall down.
「いやだ、いやだ！ あごのおひげにかけて、絶対に入れるもんか！」オオカミはふうっと吹いて、ぷうっと吹いて、また、ぷうっと吹いて、ふうっと吹きました。けれども、れんがの家は倒れませんでした。
The wolf was angry, but he was clever, too. "Little pig," he said, "there are good turnips in the farmer's field. Let's go there at six tomorrow morning."
オオカミは腹を立てましたが、ずる賢くもありました。「子ブタくん」と、オオカミは言いました。「お百姓さんの畑に、おいしいかぶがあるんだ。あしたの朝六時に、一緒に行こうよ」
But the little pig got up at five. He got the turnips and came home before the wolf came.
ところが、子ブタは五時に起きました。そして、かぶを取って、オオカミが来る前に家に帰ってきました。
Now the wolf was very angry. He climbed up on the roof. "I'll come down the chimney and eat you up!"
今度こそ、オオカミはかんかんに怒りました。そして、屋根によじ登りました。「煙突から下りていって、おまえを食ってやる！」
The little pig put a big pot of water on the fire. Down came the wolf, right into the hot water! "Ow! Ow!" He jumped out, ran away and never came back.
子ブタは、水をいっぱい入れた大きな鍋を火にかけました。オオカミは煙突を下りてきて、熱いお湯の中に真っ逆さま！「あちっ！ あちっ！」オオカミは飛び出して逃げていき、二度と戻ってきませんでした。
Then the three little pigs lived happily in the strong brick house.
それから、三匹の子ブタは、頑丈なれんがの家で幸せに暮らしました。
