A little girl and her mother are poor. They have no food.
小さな女の子とお母さんは、とても貧しく暮らしていました。食べるものが何もありませんでした。
The girl goes into the woods. She meets an old woman. The old woman gives her a little pot.
女の子は森へ行きました。そこで、一人のおばあさんに出会いました。おばあさんは、女の子に小さな鍋をくれました。
"Say, 'Cook, little pot, cook!' Then it cooks sweet porridge. Say, 'Stop, little pot!' Then it stops."
「『煮ておくれ、お鍋さん、煮ておくれ！』と言ってごらん。そうすれば、甘いおかゆを煮てくれるよ。『止まれ、お鍋さん！』と言えば、止まるからね」
The girl takes the pot home. "Cook, little pot, cook!" Sweet porridge! Now they eat every day.
女の子は、鍋を家に持って帰りました。「煮ておくれ、お鍋さん、煮ておくれ！」すると、甘いおかゆができました！ それからは、毎日おなかいっぱい食べられるようになりました。
One day the girl goes out. Her mother is hungry. "Cook, little pot, cook!"
ある日、女の子は出かけていました。お母さんはおなかがすいていました。「煮ておくれ、お鍋さん、煮ておくれ！」
The pot cooks. The mother eats. Now she wants it to stop. But she does not know the words!
鍋はおかゆを煮はじめました。お母さんはおかゆを食べました。そろそろ止めたいと思いました。ところが、止める言葉を知らなかったのです！
The pot cooks and cooks. Porridge is in the kitchen. Porridge is in the house. Porridge is in the street!
鍋は、どんどんおかゆを煮つづけました。台所はおかゆでいっぱい。家の中もおかゆでいっぱい。とうとう通りまでおかゆでいっぱいになりました！
Then the girl comes home. "Stop, little pot!" The pot stops.
そこへ、女の子が帰ってきました。「止まれ、お鍋さん！」鍋は、ぴたりと止まりました。
Now people must eat and eat to get home!
さあ、それからが大変です。家に帰りたい人は、おかゆを食べて食べて、食べながら進まなければならなかったのです！
