Six men live in a town in India. They cannot see. One day, an elephant comes.
"What is an elephant?" ask the men. "Let's touch it!"
The first man touches its side. "An elephant is like a wall!"
The second man touches its trunk. "No! It is like a snake!"
The third man touches its leg. "No! It is like a tree!"
The fourth man touches its ear. "No! It is like a big fan!"
The fifth man touches its tail. "No! It is like a rope!"
The sixth man touches its tusk. "No! It is like a spear!"
"A wall!" "A snake!" "A tree!" "A fan!" "A rope!" "A spear!" They shout and shout.
A wise old woman laughs. "You are all right. And you are all wrong."
"Each of you touched one part. Put the parts together. That is an elephant!"
The men think. Then they laugh. And the elephant? It eats a banana.
