One day Henny-penny was eating corn in the farmyard. Suddenly, whack! An acorn fell on her head.

On the way she met Cocky-locky. "Where are you going, Henny-penny?" "The sky is falling, and I'm going to tell the king." "May I come with you?" "Of course!"
途中で、コッキー・ロッキーに出会いました。「どこへ行くの、ヘニー・ペニー？」「空が落ちてくるから、王さまに知らせに行くのよ」「ぼくも一緒に行っていい？」「もちろん！」
So Henny-penny and Cocky-locky went to tell the king. On the way they met Ducky-daddles. "Where are you going?" "The sky is falling, and we're going to tell the king." "May I come with you?" "Of course!"
そこで、ヘニー・ペニーとコッキー・ロッキーは、王さまに知らせに出かけました。途中で、ダッキー・ダドルズに出会いました。「どこへ行くの？」「空が落ちてくるから、王さまに知らせに行くんだ」「わたしも一緒に行っていい？」「もちろん！」
Then they met Goosey-poosey, and then they met Turkey-lurkey. "May we come, too?" "Of course!" So they all went along together: Henny-penny, Cocky-locky, Ducky-daddles, Goosey-poosey and Turkey-lurkey.
それから、グージー・プージーに出会い、次にターキー・ラーキーに出会いました。「わたしたちも行っていい？」「もちろん！」こうして、ヘニー・ペニー、コッキー・ロッキー、ダッキー・ダドルズ、グージー・プージー、ターキー・ラーキーは、みんなそろって進んでいきました。
Then they met Foxy-woxy. "Where are you going?" he asked. "The sky is falling, and we're going to tell the king."
すると、フォクシー・ウォクシーに出会いました。「どこへ行くんだい？」と、フォクシー・ウォクシーは尋ねました。「空が落ちてくるから、王さまに知らせに行くんだよ」
"But you're going the wrong way," said Foxy-woxy with a big smile. "I know the way to the king. Follow me."
「でも、きみたちは道を間違えているよ」と、フォクシー・ウォクシーはにっこり笑って言いました。「ぼくは王さまのところへ行く道を知っているんだ。ついておいで」
So they followed him. The fox took them to a dark hole in a hill. It was the door of his home. "This is the way to the king's palace," he said. "Go in, please."
そこで、みんなはキツネについていきました。キツネはみんなを、丘にあいた暗い穴のところへ連れていきました。それは、キツネの家の入り口だったのです。「これが王さまのお城へ行く道だよ」と、キツネは言いました。「さあ、どうぞお入り」
Turkey-lurkey went in first. At once, the fox jumped at him with his mouth wide open. "Help!" cried Turkey-lurkey.
ターキー・ラーキーが最初に入りました。そのとたん、キツネは口を大きく開けて、ターキー・ラーキーに飛びかかりました。「助けて！」と、ターキー・ラーキーは叫びました。
"Cock-a-doodle-doo!" shouted Cocky-locky. "It's a trick! Run!" And they all ran home as fast as they could.
「コケコッコー！」と、コッキー・ロッキーが大声で鳴きました。「わなだ！ 逃げろ！」そしてみんなは、一目散に家まで走って帰りました。
Henny-penny never told the king that the sky was falling. It was not falling at all. It was only an acorn.
こうして、ヘニー・ペニーが、空が落ちてくると王さまに知らせることはありませんでした。空は少しも落ちてなどいなかったのです。ただのドングリだったのですから。
