Once upon a time, three bears lived in a little house in the woods. There was a great big Father Bear, a middle-sized Mother Bear and a little small Baby Bear.
むかしむかし、森の小さな家に、三匹のクマが住んでいました。とても大きなお父さんグマと、中くらいのお母さんグマと、小さな小さな子グマです。
One morning, they made porridge for breakfast. It was too hot, so they went for a walk in the woods.
ある朝、クマたちは朝ごはんにおかゆを作りました。でも熱すぎたので、さめるまで森へ散歩に出かけました。
A little girl named Goldilocks came to the house. She looked in the window. No one was there, so she opened the door and went in.
ゴルディロックスという小さな女の子が、その家にやって来ました。窓から中をのぞいてみると、だれもいません。そこで、女の子は扉を開けて中に入りました。
On the table she saw three bowls of porridge. She tried the big bowl. "Too hot!" She tried the middle bowl.
テーブルの上には、おかゆの入ったおわんが三つありました。女の子は、大きなおわんのおかゆを食べてみました。「熱すぎる！」中くらいのおわんのおかゆも食べてみました。
"Too cold!" She tried the little bowl. "Just right!" And she ate it all up.
「冷たすぎる！」小さなおわんのおかゆを食べてみました。「ちょうどいい！」そして、すっかり食べてしまいました。
Then she saw three chairs. The big chair was too hard. The middle chair was too soft. The little chair was just right. But she sat on it so hard that it broke!
それから、女の子は椅子が三つあるのを見つけました。大きな椅子はかたすぎました。中くらいの椅子はやわらかすぎました。小さな椅子は、座り心地がちょうどよかったのです。ところが、どすんと勢いよく座ったので、椅子は壊れてしまいました！
She went upstairs and saw three beds. The big bed was too hard. The middle bed was too soft. The little bed was just right, and she fell asleep.
女の子は二階に上がり、ベッドが三つあるのを見つけました。大きなベッドはかたすぎました。中くらいのベッドはやわらかすぎました。小さなベッドはちょうどよかったので、女の子はぐっすり眠ってしまいました。
Soon the bears came home. "Someone ate some of my porridge!" said Father Bear in his great big voice. "Someone ate some of my porridge!" said Mother Bear in her middle voice. "Someone ate my porridge, and it's all gone!" cried Baby Bear in his little small voice.
まもなく、クマたちが帰ってきました。「だれかがわしのおかゆを食べたぞ！」と、お父さんグマがとても大きな声で言いました。「だれかがわたしのおかゆを食べたわ！」と、お母さんグマが中くらいの声で言いました。「だれかがぼくのおかゆを食べて、全部なくなっちゃった！」と、子グマが小さな小さな声で叫びました。
"Someone sat in my chair!" said Father Bear. "Someone sat in my chair!" said Mother Bear. "Someone sat in my chair, and it's broken!" cried Baby Bear.
「だれかがわしの椅子に座ったぞ！」と、お父さんグマが言いました。「だれかがわたしの椅子に座ったわ！」と、お母さんグマが言いました。「だれかがぼくの椅子に座って、椅子が壊れちゃった！」と、子グマが叫びました。
They went upstairs. "Someone slept in my bed!" said Father Bear. "Someone slept in my bed!" said Mother Bear. "Someone is sleeping in my bed, and here she is!" cried Baby Bear.
クマたちは二階に上がりました。「だれかがわしのベッドで寝たぞ！」と、お父さんグマが言いました。「だれかがわたしのベッドで寝たわ！」と、お母さんグマが言いました。「だれかがぼくのベッドで寝てる。ほら、ここにいるよ！」と、子グマが叫びました。
Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears. She jumped out of bed, out of the window and ran all the way home. The bears never saw her again.
ゴルディロックスは目をさまし、三匹のクマに気がつきました。女の子はベッドから飛び出し、窓から飛び出して、家まで一度も止まらずに走って帰りました。クマたちが女の子を見かけることは、それから二度とありませんでした。
