One day, a crab found a rice ball. A monkey found a kaki seed. Kaki are orange fruit, and in English we call them persimmons.
"Let's trade," said the monkey. "If you plant this seed, you can get many kaki." So the crab gave him the rice ball. The monkey ate it right away.
The crab planted the seed. "Grow fast, or I will cut you!" she said every day. The seed grew into a tree, and many kaki grew on it.
But the crab could not climb the tree. The monkey said, "I will help you." He climbed up and ate all the sweet orange kaki. "Give me one, please!" said the crab. The monkey threw down a hard green one. It hit the crab, and she was badly hurt.
Her children were very angry. Their friends came to help. A chestnut, a bee, and a big heavy usu. A usu is a big wooden tool for making rice cakes. They made a plan.
They went to the monkey's house and hid. The chestnut hid in the fireplace. The bee hid in the water bucket. The usu waited on the roof.
The monkey came home. He sat by the fire. Pop! The hot chestnut jumped and hit his bottom. "Ouch!" He ran to the water bucket. Buzz! The bee stung his nose. He ran out of the door. Thud! The usu fell on him from the roof and held him down.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" cried the monkey. "I was greedy and mean." The little crabs said, "Then say sorry to our mother."
So the monkey went to see the mother crab. He brought her the sweetest kaki from the tree. She got better, and the monkey never cheated again.
