A wolf was eating his dinner very fast. He did not chew his food. Suddenly, a sharp bone got stuck in his throat. "Ugh! Ugh!" He coughed and coughed, but the bone did not come out.
It hurt very much. He could not eat, and he could not drink. He ran around the forest. "Please help me!" he cried to every animal. "Take out this bone, and I can give you a big prize!"
The animals were afraid of the wolf, so they ran away. But a crane stopped. She had long legs and a very long neck. "I can help you," she said. "My neck is long, and my beak is thin."
"Good, good! Hurry!" said the wolf. He opened his mouth very wide. The crane looked at his big sharp teeth. She was a little scared, but she put her long neck and head deep into his mouth. Carefully, she pulled out the bone.
"Ahh," said the wolf. "That feels much better."
The crane smiled. "Now, Mr. Wolf, where is my prize?"
The wolf laughed and showed his teeth. "Your prize? Your head was in my mouth, and I did not bite it off. You are still alive! That is your prize. Now go away, or I may get hungry again!"
The crane flew away quickly. "I helped a bad animal," she thought. "I got nothing. But I am lucky to be alive."
