One sunny day, a fox and a leopard met by a river. They started to talk, and soon they had an argument. Who was more beautiful?
"Me, of course," said the leopard. "Look at my coat." He turned around slowly. "Look at these spots. Here is a big round one. Here is a small one. Here are three more on my tail. Every spot is perfect. Nobody in the forest has a coat like mine."
He showed the fox his spots, one by one. It took a long time. The fox yawned.
"Look at this spot on my leg!" said the leopard. "And this one on my back! And this one on my ear!"
"Stop, stop," said the fox with a smile. "Your spots are very nice. But my beauty is better."
"Your beauty?" said the leopard. "You have no spots at all! You are just orange!"
"That's true," said the fox. "Your beauty is on the outside. But my beauty is on the inside. It is here." He touched his head. "I have a clever mind. I can think of a hundred good ideas. Your spots can't do that!"
The leopard opened his mouth. Then he closed it. For once, he had nothing to say.
