A hungry wolf lived near a big farm. Every day he looked at the sheep, but he could not get close. The shepherd and his dogs always watched them.
One day, the wolf found an old sheepskin on the ground. He had a clever idea. "I can wear this," he thought. "Then I can look like a sheep!"
He put the white skin over his back and his head. He walked slowly into the field. "Baa," he said in a small voice. The sheep did not run. The dogs did not bark. The shepherd did not see anything strange.
The wolf smiled under the skin. "This is easy," he thought. "Tonight I can eat a fat sheep for dinner."
In the evening, the shepherd took all the sheep into the sheep house. The wolf went in with them. The shepherd closed the gate and locked it. "Good night, my sheep," he said.
But late that night, the shepherd came back. He needed some meat for a big dinner the next day. It was very dark, so he could not see well. He put out his hand and caught the biggest sheep.
That "sheep" was the wolf! "Oh no!" cried the wolf. He tried to run, but the door was locked. The shepherd held him tight, and the white skin fell off his head.
"A wolf!" shouted the shepherd. "So you are the clever sheep!" That was the end of the wolf's tricks. He never ate a sheep again.
