My dad loves jokes. He tells them at breakfast, at lunch and at dinner. Most of them are not very funny, but he always laughs anyway.
うちのお父さんは、ジョークが大好きです。朝ごはんでも、昼ごはんでも、晩ごはんでもジョークを言います。ほとんどはあまりおもしろくないのですが、お父さんはいつも自分で笑っています。
On Friday night, we had pizza. Dad picked up a big slice and looked at me. "Do you want to hear a joke about pizza?"
金曜日の夜、うちではピザを食べました。お父さんは大きなひと切れを持ち上げて、ぼくを見ました。「ピザのジョーク、聞きたいか？」
"No, thank you," I said.
「いいえ、けっこうです」と、ぼくは言いました。
"Too bad," said Dad. "It's too cheesy anyway."
「それは残念」と、お父さんは言いました。「どうせ、ちょっとチーズくさすぎる（cheesy）ジョークだからな」
My little sister laughed so hard that she dropped her slice on the floor. Our dog was very happy about that.
妹は笑いすぎて、自分のピザを床に落としてしまいました。うちの犬は大喜びでした。
Mom shook her head. "Your jokes are cheesier than this pizza," she said.
お母さんは首を横に振りました。「あなたのジョークは、このピザよりチーズくさいわね（cheesier）」と、お母さんは言いました。
Dad smiled. "Thank you!" he said. He thought it was a compliment.
お父さんはにっこりしました。「ありがとう！」と言いました。ほめ言葉だと思ったのです。
A pizza has a lot of cheese, so it is cheesy. But a cheesy joke is a joke that is silly and not very cool. Dad's joke was cheesy in both ways.
ピザにはチーズがたっぷりのっているので、cheesy（チーズたっぷり）です。でも cheesy なジョークというのは、ばかばかしくて、ちっともかっこよくないジョークのことです。お父さんのジョークは、どちらの意味でも cheesy でした。
