A young goatherd took care of many goats. Every evening, he took them home from the hills. One evening, all the goats came, but one goat did not. She stood on a rock far away and ate grass.
The goatherd whistled. "Come here!" The goat did not come. He called her name again and again. The goat did not even look at him. She just ate more grass.
The goatherd got very angry. "Come here now!" he shouted. He picked up a stone and threw it. He did not want to hit her. But the stone hit her horn, and crack! A piece of her horn broke off.
"Oh no," said the goatherd. He ran to the goat. "I am sorry! I am so sorry!" Then he thought of his master. The goats were not his. They were his master's goats. His master can get very angry.
"Please, little goat," he said. "Don't tell my master. Please keep it a secret!"
The goat looked at him. "You silly boy," she said. "I can keep quiet. I can say nothing at all. But look at my horn! My horn can tell your master everything."
The goatherd looked at the broken horn. She was right. That evening, he took the goats home. Then he went to his master and told him the truth.
