A walnut tree stands by a road. This year, it has lots and lots of walnuts. "Here!" says the tree. "Take my walnuts. Eat them. Be happy!"
道端に、クルミの木が立っていました。今年は、それはそれはたくさんのクルミが実っていました。「さあ！」と、木は言いました。「わたしのクルミをお取りなさい。食べて、幸せになりなさい！」
People walk by. "Look! Walnuts!" They throw stones at the tree. Bang! They hit it with sticks. Whack! Whack!
人々が通りかかりました。「見て！ クルミだ！」人々は木に石を投げました。ゴツン！ 棒で木をたたきました。バシッ！ バシッ！
The walnuts fall down. The people pick them up. But the branches break, too. Crack! Crack!
クルミが落ちてきて、人々はそれを拾いました。でも、枝も折れてしまいました。ボキッ！ ボキッ！
"Ouch! Ouch!" cries the tree. "I give you my walnuts. I make you happy. Why do you hurt me?"
「痛い！ 痛い！」と、木は叫びました。「わたしはクルミをあげている。あなたたちを幸せにしてあげている。それなのに、どうしてわたしを傷つけるの？」
The people do not hear. They eat the walnuts and walk away. The poor tree stands alone by the road.
人々には聞こえませんでした。クルミを食べると、行ってしまいました。かわいそうな木は、道端にひとりぼっちで立っていました。
