It is summer. The sun is hot. The ants work and work. They carry food to their home.
夏のことでした。お日さまがかんかんに照っています。アリたちは、せっせと働いていました。食べ物を家に運んでいたのです。
The grasshopper does not work. He sings and plays all day. "La la la! Come and play!" he says. "We are busy," say the ants. "Winter is coming."
キリギリスは働きませんでした。一日中、歌って遊んでばかりいました。「ラララ！ 一緒に遊ぼうよ！」と、キリギリスは誘いました。「ぼくたちは忙しいんだ」と、アリたちは答えました。「冬が来るからね」
Now it is winter. It is cold. There is no food in the fields. The grasshopper is very hungry.
やがて冬になりました。寒い寒い冬です。野原には食べ物がありません。キリギリスはおなかがぺこぺこでした。
He goes to the ants' home. The ants have lots of food. "Please give me some food," he says.
キリギリスはアリたちの家へ行きました。アリたちの家には、食べ物がたくさんありました。「食べ物を少しください」と、キリギリスは頼みました。
"Why don't you have food?" ask the ants. "In summer, I sang every day," says the grasshopper. "I had no time to work."
「どうしてきみには食べ物がないの？」と、アリたちはたずねました。「夏のあいだ、毎日歌っていたんだ」と、キリギリスは答えました。「働く暇がなかったんだよ」
"You sang all summer," say the ants. "So now you can dance all winter!"
「夏のあいだずっと歌っていたんだね」と、アリたちは言いました。「それなら、冬のあいだはずっと踊っていればいいよ！」
