A big lion is sleeping. A little mouse runs on his face. Run, run, run!
大きなライオンが眠っていました。小さなネズミが、ライオンの顔の上を走りました。タタタ、タタタ！
The lion wakes up. He is angry. He catches the mouse in his big paw. "I am hungry," says the lion. "I will eat you!"
ライオンが目を覚ましました。ライオンはかんかんに怒って、大きな前足でネズミを捕まえました。「腹が減ったぞ」と、ライオンは言いました。「おまえを食べてやる！」
"Please, please, let me go!" says the mouse. "One day, I will help you." The lion laughs. "You? Help me? You are so little!" But he lets the mouse go.
「お願い、お願いです、逃がしてください！」と、ネズミは頼みました。「いつか、あなたを助けますから」ライオンは笑いました。「おまえが？ わしを助ける？ そんなに小さいのにか！」それでも、ライオンはネズミを逃がしてやりました。
One day, some hunters come. They catch the lion with strong ropes. The lion cannot move. "Help! Help!" he roars.
ある日、狩人たちがやって来ました。狩人たちは、丈夫なロープでライオンを捕まえました。ライオンは動けません。「助けてくれ！ 助けてくれ！」と、ライオンはほえました。
The little mouse hears him. She runs to the lion. Chew, chew, chew! She bites the ropes. Snap! The lion is free.
小さなネズミが、その声を聞きつけました。ネズミはライオンのところへ走っていきました。カジカジカジ！ ネズミはロープをかじりました。プツン！ ライオンは自由になりました。
"You laughed at me," says the mouse. "But little friends can help, too." The lion smiles. "Thank you, my little friend."
「あなたはわたしを笑いましたね」と、ネズミは言いました。「でも、小さな友だちだって助けになれるんですよ」ライオンはにっこりしました。「ありがとう、小さな友よ」
