A dove lives in a cage. Her babies live in the cage, too. Lots of babies!
ハトが鳥かごの中で暮らしていました。ハトの赤ちゃんたちも、かごの中で暮らしていました。赤ちゃんはたくさんいました！
A crow comes by. "Hello, Crow!" says the dove. "Look at my family! I have ten babies! Ten! I am the best mother!"
カラスが通りかかりました。「こんにちは、カラスさん！」と、ハトは言いました。「わたしの家族を見て！ 赤ちゃんが十羽もいるのよ！ 十羽よ！ わたしは最高のお母さんだわ！」
The crow looks at the cage. She looks at the babies. They cannot fly away. They cannot go out.
カラスはかごを見ました。赤ちゃんたちを見ました。赤ちゃんたちは飛んでいけません。外に出られないのです。
"My friend," says the crow softly. "Ten babies in a cage? And they cannot fly away? That is not good news. That is sad news."
「ねえ、ハトさん」と、カラスはやさしく言いました。「かごの中に十羽の赤ちゃん？ しかも、飛んでいけないの？ それはいい知らせじゃないわ。悲しい知らせよ」
The dove looks at her babies. She looks at the sky. She is quiet.
ハトは赤ちゃんたちを見て、それから空を見上げました。ハトは黙りこんでしまいました。
