A mouse family lives in an old house. They have a pretty daughter. "She must marry the strongest one!" says Father Mouse. "But who is the strongest?"
古い家に、ネズミの一家が住んでいました。一家には、かわいい娘がいました。「娘には、いちばん強い相手と結婚してもらわなくては！」と、父さんネズミは言いました。「でも、いちばん強いのはだれだろう？」
They go to the Sun. "Sun, you are the strongest. Please marry our girl." "Oh, no," says the Sun. "The Cloud is stronger. The Cloud can hide me."
一家は、お日さまのところへ行きました。「お日さま、いちばん強いのはあなたです。どうか、うちの娘と結婚してください」「いやいや」と、お日さまは答えました。「雲のほうが強いよ。雲は、わたしをかくしてしまうからね」
They go to the Cloud. "Cloud, please marry our girl." "Oh, no. The Wind is stronger. The Wind can blow me away."
次に、一家は雲のところへ行きました。「雲さん、どうか、うちの娘と結婚してください」「いやいや。風のほうが強いよ。風は、わたしを吹き飛ばしてしまうからね」
They go to the Wind. "Wind, please marry our girl." "Oh, no. The Wall is stronger. I blow and blow. But the Wall does not move."
今度は、風のところへ行きました。「風さん、どうか、うちの娘と結婚してください」「いやいや。壁のほうが強いよ。わたしがびゅうびゅう吹いても、壁はちっとも動かないんだ」
They go to the Wall. "Wall, please marry our girl." "Oh, no. The Mouse is stronger. Mice make holes in me. Chew, chew, chew!"
そこで、壁のところへ行きました。「壁さん、どうか、うちの娘と結婚してください」「いやいや。ネズミのほうが強いよ。ネズミは、わたしに穴をあけてしまうからね。がりがり、がりがり！」
"A mouse?" Father Mouse laughs. "So mice are the strongest!" The daughter marries the young mouse next door. Everyone is happy.
「ネズミだって？」父さんネズミは笑いだしました。「なんだ、ネズミがいちばん強いんじゃないか！」こうして娘は、となりに住む若いネズミと結婚しました。みんな、しあわせいっぱいでした。
