An old man goes to the mountain. He hears a little voice. "Dosukoi! Dosukoi!" Two mice are doing sumo.
One mouse is big and fat. He is from the rich man's house. The other is small and thin. He is from the old man's house. The thin mouse falls again and again. "Poor mouse!" says the old man.
The old man and the old woman make mochi. Mochi are rice cakes. They leave the mochi for the mouse. "Eat and get strong!"
The next day, the thin mouse wins! "How are you so strong?" asks the fat mouse. "I ate mochi!" "Oh, I want mochi, too."
That night, the old woman makes a lot of mochi. She makes two little sumo belts, too.
The next day, the two mice do sumo again. Dosukoi! Dosukoi! Now they are both strong. No one wins! Then the fat mouse brings gold coins. "Thank you for the mochi!" Everyone smiles.
