Many years in the future, two cooks named Rosa and Max had a big dream. They wanted to open the first restaurant on the moon.
It was not easy. They had to carry everything by rocket, from tables and chairs to pots, pans and two hundred kilos of rice. But after one year of hard work, the restaurant was ready. They called it The Full Moon.
The food was wonderful. Rosa made the best pasta in the solar system. Max made a beautiful moon-shaped cake. The view was beautiful, too. From every window, you could see the blue Earth shining in the black sky.
On the first night, a few astronauts came. They loved the food. "Delicious!" they said. "Amazing!" But they never came back. On the second night, only one person came. On the third night, nobody came at all.
Rosa and Max did not understand. "The food is great," said Rosa. "The view is great. The prices are not too high. What's wrong?"
Max flew to the space station to ask people. There he found one of the astronauts from the first night. "Did you like our restaurant?" he asked.
"Oh, the food was great," said the astronaut. "But to be honest, the place had no atmosphere."
Max went back to the moon and told Rosa. Rosa looked out of the window at the empty gray land. Then she started to laugh. "Well," she said, "he's right. There is no air outside at all!"
The next week, they put flowers and candles on every table and played soft music. The candles were electric, of course, because real fire is dangerous inside a moon restaurant. Slowly, people started to come back.
The word "atmosphere" has two meanings. It is the air around a planet, and the moon has almost none. It is also the feeling or mood of a place. A restaurant with no atmosphere is not a fun place to eat.
