Old Bear lives in the forest. He is very old. He has no teeth now.
森に、年とったクマが住んでいました。とても年をとっていて、今ではもう歯が一本もありません。
He cannot eat nuts. He cannot eat apples. He eats only soft food, like honey and bananas.
ナッツは食べられません。りんごも食べられません。食べられるのは、はちみつやバナナのような、やわらかいものだけでした。
One day, two little bears come to see him. "Hello, Old Bear!" they say. "Can you smile for us?"
ある日、二ひきの子グマが会いにきました。「こんにちは、おじいさんグマ！」と、子グマたちは言いました。「笑ってみせて！」
Old Bear smiles a big smile. No teeth! Only pink gums.
おじいさんグマは、にーっと大きく笑いました。歯がありません！ ピンク色の歯ぐきだけです。
The little bears laugh. "You are not Old Bear," they say. "You are a gummy bear!"
子グマたちは笑いました。「おじいさんグマじゃないや」と、子グマたちは言いました。「グミ・ベア（gummy bear）だ！」
Old Bear laughs too. "Yes! And gummy bears are sweet, so I am very sweet!"
おじいさんグマも笑いました。「そうじゃ！ グミ・ベアは甘い（sweet）。だから、わしもとっても sweet（やさしい）なのじゃ！」
Gums are the pink parts in your mouth around your teeth. A mouth with only gums is "gummy." And gummy bears are also little sweet candies.
gums（歯ぐき）とは、口の中の、歯のまわりのピンク色の部分のことです。歯ぐきしかない口は「gummy」と言います。そして、グミ・ベアは小さくて甘いお菓子の名前でもあります。
