A camel lived in a dry land. He was big and strong. He could walk for many days without water. But one day, he saw a bull with two beautiful horns on his head.
"Oh, look at those horns!" said the camel. "They are so long and shiny. Everyone looks at the bull. I want horns too!"
He looked at his own head in the water. It had no horns. It had only two ears. He felt sad.
So the camel went to the top of a high mountain. There he met Zeus, the king of the gods. "Great Zeus," said the camel, "please give me horns. A bull has horns. Why can't I have horns too?"
Zeus looked down at the camel. He was not happy. "Camel," he said, "I gave you a big, strong body. You can carry heavy things. You can walk across the desert. You can live many days without water. Isn't that enough?"
"No," said the camel. "I want horns too. Please, please!"
Zeus got angry. "You are never happy with your gifts," he said. "So, no horns for you. And I can make your ears smaller too!" He touched the camel's ears, and they got shorter.
The camel walked down the mountain with his little short ears. And that is why camels have small ears today.
