Delft is a small town in the Netherlands. More than 350 years ago, the painter Johannes Vermeer lived there. In soft light from a window, he painted a woman reading a letter and a maid pouring milk. Nothing much happens, yet you cannot look away. Only about 35 of his paintings survive, and each one is a treasure of a great museum.
After his death, Vermeer was almost forgotten for about 200 years. We do not know what he looked like or who taught him to paint. There is a secret blue, a stolen masterpiece and even a forger who fooled the Nazis. Let's quietly step into the world of the mystery painter once called 'the Sphinx of Delft.'
