In a big kitchen, there was a big bowl. In the bowl lived some vegetables. There was Lettuce, there was Cucumber, and there was a young green tomato named Tim.
Tim was very shy. He did not talk much, and he was always a little green.
One evening, the cook opened the fridge. She took out a bottle and walked to the bowl. "Time to make a salad," she said.
She opened the bottle. Tim looked up. Then his face turned red. Bright red. Very, very red.
"Tim, what's wrong?" asked Cucumber. "Are you sick?"
Tim covered his eyes. "I can't look!" he cried. "The salad is dressing! Somebody, please close the door!"
Lettuce laughed so hard that all her leaves shook. "Oh, Tim," she said. "It's only a sauce!"
Salad dressing is a sauce for salad. But "dressing" also means putting on your clothes. Tim thought the salad was changing its clothes, so he turned red. Tomatoes also turn from green to red when they are ready to eat!
