シランクス（無伴奏フルートのための）

「シランクス」は、ドビュッシーが1913年に書いた、フルート1本だけで吹く曲です。伴奏はまったくありません。くねくねとした、ため息のようなメロディーが、高い音から低い音まで自由にただよい、静かな森の中で1人の笛吹きが吹いているような世界をつくります。3分ほどの短い曲ですが、フルート奏者にとって特別な名曲です。Syrinx is a piece for solo flute that Debussy wrote in 1913. There is no accompaniment at all. A winding, sighing melody drifts freely from high notes to low ones, creating a world in which a single piper plays in a quiet forest. It lasts only about three minutes, but for flutists it is a very special masterpiece.

もとは、作家ガブリエル・ムーレイの劇『プシュケ』のための音楽で、最初の題は「パンの笛」でした。ギリシャ神話では、牧神パンに追いかけられた妖精シュリンクス（シランクス）が、葦（あし）に姿を変えてしまいます。パンはその葦で笛を作って吹いた、というお話です。この曲は、そのパンが吹く笛の音として書かれました。It was first written as music for Gabriel Mourey's play Psyché, and its original title was 'Pan's Flute.' In Greek myth, the nymph Syrinx is chased by the god Pan and turns into reeds. Pan then makes a pipe from those reeds and plays it. This piece was written as the sound of Pan's pipe.

1913年の終わり、フルート奏者ルイ・フルーリーが劇の中で初めて演奏しました。楽譜はその後も長くフルーリーの手もとにあり、彼の死後の1927年に「シランクス」という題で出版されました。20世紀の無伴奏フルート曲に大きな影響をあたえ、今では音楽大学やコンクールでも広く演奏されています。At the end of 1913, the flutist Louis Fleury played it for the first time as part of the play. The score then stayed with Fleury for many years, and it was published in 1927, after his death, under the title Syrinx. It had a great influence on 20th-century music for solo flute, and today it is widely studied and played at music schools and competitions.
