Chopin and the Raindrops(ショパンと雨だれ)
In the winter of 1838, the young composer Frédéric Chopin traveled to Majorca, an island in Spain. He hoped the warm sun would help his weak health. But the weather turned cold and wet. Chopin stayed in an old stone monastery in the mountains. There, he finished a set of short piano pieces called the Preludes. One of them is now known as the "Raindrop" Prelude. Through the whole piece, one soft note repeats again and again, like water falling from a roof. People say Chopin wrote it on a stormy night, while he waited alone for his friends to come home. We do not know if that story is true. But when you listen, you can almost hear the rain. Close your eyes, and let each quiet drop fall.
Beethoven's Walk in the Woods(ベートーヴェンの森の散歩)
Ludwig van Beethoven loved to walk. He often left the busy streets of Vienna and walked into the green countryside. He walked through forests and fields, and along small streams. He usually carried a notebook and a pencil in his pocket. When a new melody came to him, he stopped and wrote it down. Nature gave him peace, and it gave him ideas. In 1808, he finished his Sixth Symphony, called the "Pastoral" Symphony. It is music about life in the countryside. In one part, you can hear a gentle stream. Near the end of that part, the flute, the oboe, and the clarinet sing like birds: a nightingale, a quail, and a cuckoo. Later comes a storm, and then a calm, thankful song. Take a slow breath, and walk with Beethoven for a while.
Mozart and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star(モーツァルトときらきら星)
Do you know the song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"? Children all over the world sing it. But the melody is older than the English words. It comes from an old French song called "Ah, vous dirai-je, maman." In the early 1780s, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piano piece using this simple tune. First, he plays the melody very plainly. Then he changes it twelve times. Sometimes the notes run fast, like a little river. Sometimes they become sad and slow. Sometimes they dance. Each change is called a variation. Mozart did not write the tune himself, but he showed how much beauty can grow from a few simple notes. When you listen, try to find the little star hiding inside each variation.
Bach's Coffee Cantata(バッハのコーヒー・カンタータ)
In the 1700s, coffee was a new and exciting drink in Europe. In the German city of Leipzig, people met in coffee houses to talk, read, and listen to music. Johann Sebastian Bach often led concerts at one of these places, Zimmermann's coffee house. Around 1734, he wrote a funny little piece now called the "Coffee Cantata." It tells the story of a father and his daughter. The father is worried because his daughter drinks too much coffee. He tells her to stop, but she sings that coffee is sweeter than a thousand kisses. Finally, he says, "Then you cannot have a husband." So she promises to give it up. But secretly, she plans to marry only a man who will let her drink coffee. Bach is known as a serious composer, but this cantata shows his warm sense of humor.
Debussy and the Moonlight(ドビュッシーと月の光)
Claude Debussy was a French composer who loved to paint pictures with sound. He was born in 1862, near Paris. One of his most famous pieces is "Clair de lune," which means "moonlight" in French. It is the third part of a set of piano pieces called the Suite bergamasque. Debussy began the suite when he was a young man, but it was not published until 1905. The title comes from a poem by the French poet Paul Verlaine. The music begins very softly, like pale light on a quiet lake. Then it slowly grows and moves, like clouds passing across the night sky. Debussy did not want to tell a clear story. He wanted his listeners to feel a mood. Tonight, as you listen, imagine the soft silver light of the moon.
Vivaldi and The Four Seasons(ヴィヴァルディの四季)
Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy, in 1678. He was a priest, a great violinist, and a music teacher. Because of his red hair, people called him "the Red Priest." For many years, he taught at the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for children without families. The girls who studied music there became famous for their beautiful concerts. In 1725, Vivaldi published The Four Seasons, a set of four violin concertos: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each concerto came with a short poem, and the music follows the poem closely. In Spring, birds sing and a soft wind blows. In Summer, a storm breaks. In Autumn, people celebrate the harvest. In Winter, cold feet stamp on the frozen ground. Many people think Vivaldi wrote the poems himself, but no one knows for sure.
The North Wind and the Sun(北風と太陽)
One day, the North Wind and the Sun began to argue. "I am stronger than you," said the Wind. "No, I am stronger," said the Sun. Just then, they saw a traveler walking along a country road. He was wearing a warm coat. "Let's have a contest," said the Sun. "Whoever can take that man's coat off is the stronger one." The Wind went first. He blew hard and cold. But the harder he blew, the tighter the man held his coat. At last, the Wind gave up. Then the Sun came out from behind a cloud. He shone down gently and warmly. Soon the man began to feel hot. He smiled, opened his coat, and took it off. Kindness can often do what force cannot.
The Ant and the Grasshopper(アリとキリギリス)
All summer long, a grasshopper played in the sunny fields. He sang, he danced, and he slept under the flowers. Nearby, a small ant worked every day. She carried seeds and grains back to her home, one by one. "Why are you working so hard?" asked the grasshopper. "Come and sing with me. The weather is beautiful." "I am saving food for the winter," said the ant. "You should do the same." The grasshopper only laughed. "Winter is far away," he said. But winter came. Snow covered the fields, and there was nothing to eat. The hungry grasshopper knocked on the ant's door. The ant kindly shared a little of her food, and the grasshopper learned an important lesson: work a little today, and you will be ready for tomorrow.
The Tortoise and the Hare(ウサギとカメ)
A hare was very proud of his long legs. "I am the fastest animal in the forest," he said. "Nobody can beat me." A tortoise was listening quietly. "Let's have a race," she said. The hare laughed so hard that he almost fell over, but he agreed. The race began, and the hare ran far ahead. Soon he could not even see the tortoise behind him. "I have plenty of time," he thought. "I will rest under this tree." The warm sun made him sleepy, and he closed his eyes. Meanwhile, the tortoise kept walking. Step by step, slowly and steadily, she never stopped. When the hare woke up, he ran as fast as he could. But it was too late. The tortoise had already crossed the finish line. Slow and steady wins the race.
The Lion and the Mouse(ライオンとネズミ)
One hot afternoon, a great lion was sleeping in the shade. A little mouse ran across his nose by mistake. The lion woke up and caught the mouse under his huge paw. "Please let me go," cried the mouse. "If you do, someday I will help you." The lion laughed. How could such a tiny animal ever help the king of the forest? Still, he lifted his paw and let the mouse run away. A few days later, the lion was caught in a hunter's net. He roared and pulled, but the ropes only grew tighter. The little mouse heard him and came running. With her sharp teeth, she chewed through the ropes, one after another, until the lion was free. "You laughed at me," said the mouse, "but even a small friend can be a great help." A kind act is never wasted, no matter how small.
A Deep Breath in the Morning(朝の深呼吸)
Good morning. A new day is beginning. Before you check your phone or start your work, let's take a quiet moment together. Sit comfortably, and let your shoulders relax. Now, breathe in slowly through your nose... one, two, three, four. Hold it gently for a moment. And breathe out through your mouth... one, two, three, four, five, six. Let's do it again. Breathe in, and feel the fresh air fill your body. Breathe out, and let go of any worries from yesterday. One more time. Breathe in... and breathe out. Notice the light in the room. Notice the sounds around you. You don't need to hurry. This day is yours. Take it one step at a time, and be kind to yourself.
A Rainy Afternoon(雨の午後)
Outside, the rain is falling softly. You can hear it on the window, on the roof, and on the leaves of the trees. There is nowhere you need to go right now. Imagine you are sitting by the window with a warm cup of tea in your hands. Feel the heat of the cup in your fingers. Watch the small drops slide slowly down the glass. Some of them join together, and some of them stay alone. The sky is gray, but the room around you is warm and quiet. Rain helps the earth rest and grow. Maybe today, you can rest a little too. Let your thoughts move slowly, like the clouds. Listen to the music, listen to the rain, and simply enjoy this peaceful afternoon.
Under the Stars(星空の下で)
Imagine that you are lying on soft grass on a clear summer night. The air is cool and fresh. Above you, the sky is deep and dark, and it is full of stars. Some are bright, and some are so small that you can only just see them. The light from many of these stars began its journey long, long ago, before any of us were born. It has traveled a very long way to reach your eyes tonight. Feel how big the sky is, and how quiet. Your problems may seem large during the day, but under the stars, they become a little smaller. Breathe slowly. Let the night hold you. You are a small part of something wide and beautiful.
Before You Sleep(おやすみ前に)
The day is over now. You did your best, and that is enough. Let's get ready for a calm and restful sleep. Lie down comfortably, and close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath in... and let it out gently. Feel your feet becoming heavy and warm. Now your legs, your stomach, and your chest. Let your shoulders sink into the bed. Let your hands rest. Relax your face, your eyes, and your forehead. If a thought comes, that's okay. Just watch it float away, like a small cloud in the night sky. There is nothing more to do today. Tomorrow will come in its own time. For now, just rest, breathe, and let the music carry you softly into sleep. Good night.
Before You Study(勉強を始める前に)
It's time to start. Before you open your book, sit up straight and take one deep breath. You don't have to finish everything today. You only need to begin. Choose one small goal for the next thirty minutes. Maybe it's ten new words, one page of reading, or one short exercise. Put your phone away, so it can't call you. Now, imagine yourself at the end of this time, feeling proud and a little stronger. Learning is like walking up a mountain. Each step looks small, but together they take you very high. Mistakes are not a problem. They are part of the path. Every great musician practiced the same notes many, many times. You can do this too. Ready? Let's begin.
Ready for Work(仕事の前に)
Hello. Before you start your work today, let's take a moment to prepare your mind. Think about one thing you want to finish today. Just one. Write it down, or say it quietly to yourself. Now, think about why it matters. Maybe it helps someone else. Maybe it helps you grow. You don't need to be perfect. You only need to keep moving forward. When the work feels difficult, remember that hard tasks become easier when you break them into small pieces. Do one piece, and then the next. Take short breaks, drink some water, and stretch your body. And when you finish, notice what you did well. A good day is built from many small efforts. You are ready. Let's get started.
