ちいかわは英語で何て言う？若者の流行調査で13位から1位に

Chiikawa has become number one in a survey of young people in Japan. The survey asked what is popular right now. The small character was 13th in the previous survey in June.

日本の若い人たちへの調査で、ちいかわが1位になりました。調査では「いま何が流行っているか」を聞きました。この小さなキャラクターは、6月の前回の調査では13位でした。

The survey was done by LINE Research from September 1 to 3. About 4,700 people aged 15 to 24 took part. They wrote down things and people that they think are popular.

調査は9月1日から3日に、LINEリサーチが行いました。15歳から24歳の約4700人が答えました。みんなは、流行っていると思うものや人を書きました。

A five-member dance and vocal group came second. The TV drama VIVANT was third. The first Chiikawa movie came out in July and became a big hit.

5人組のダンスボーカルグループ（M!LK）が2位でした。テレビドラマの VIVANT が3位でした。ちいかわの初めての映画は7月に公開され、大ヒットしました。

In English, the character is also called Chiikawa. The name comes from two Japanese words, chiisai and kawaii. In English, they mean small and cute.

英語でも、このキャラクターは Chiikawa と呼ばれています。名前は「ちいさい」と「かわいい」という2つの日本語から来ています。英語では small（小さい）と cute（かわいい）という意味です。

Chiikawa, the small character created by the artist Nagano, has topped a survey of what young people in Japan think is popular. The character rose from 13th place in the previous survey, which was held in June. LINE Yahoo released the new results on October 23.

The company's LINE Research service carries out the survey every three months. This time, 4,738 people aged 15 to 24 answered on their smartphones from September 1 to 3. Instead of choosing from a list, they wrote freely about things and people that they felt were popular. Their answers were then sorted and ranked.

この調査は、同社のLINEリサーチが3か月ごとに行っています。今回は9月1日から3日に、15〜24歳の4738人がスマートフォンで答えました。リストから選ぶのではなく、流行っていると感じるものや人を自由に書きました。その答えを分けて、順位をつけました。

Chiikawa came first among female respondents of every age group and among men aged 19 to 24. Among boys aged 15 to 18, it was second, behind the TV drama VIVANT. Overall, VIVANT jumped to third from 692nd place in June. A five-member dance and vocal group was second, staying in the top two for the third survey in a row.

ちいかわは、女性のすべての年代と、19〜24歳の男性で1位でした。15〜18歳の男子では、テレビドラマの VIVANT に次ぐ2位でした。全体では、VIVANT は6月の692位から3位に上がりました。5人組のダンスボーカルグループ（M!LK）は2位で、3回続けて上位2つに入りました。

LINE Research said the Chiikawa movie, a big hit during the summer vacation, seemed to be behind the character's rise. It also said that many of this survey's trends came from movies and dramas. The film, distributed by Toho, opened on July 24. English-language media also call the character Chiikawa. The name is short for a Japanese phrase that means something small and cute.

Food and goods also did well in the survey. Mala tang, a spicy soup that lets customers choose their own ingredients, was fifth. Squishy toys known as squeezes jumped from 57th place to seventh.
