歌劇『フィガロの結婚』序曲

『フィガロの結婚』は、モーツァルトが作曲し、1786年5月1日にウィーンのブルク劇場で初演されたオペラです。台本はロレンツォ・ダ・ポンテ。召使いのフィガロが、自分の婚約者にちょっかいを出す伯爵を、知恵で出しぬくという喜劇です。序曲は、そのドタバタの1日の幕開けにぴったりの、速くて楽しい音楽です。The Marriage of Figaro is an opera by Mozart, first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 1 May 1786. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It is a comedy in which Figaro, a servant, uses his wits to outsmart the Count, who is chasing Figaro's fiancée. The overture is fast and fun, perfect for the start of this crazy day.

もとになったのは、フランスの作家ボーマルシェの劇です。召使いが貴族をやりこめる内容が問題になり、ウィーンでは劇の上演が禁止されていました。そこでダ・ポンテは、政治的に危ない部分をけずってオペラにし、皇帝ヨーゼフ2世の許しをもらいました。序曲は、ひそひそと始まってすぐに大きく盛りあがる、わくわくする作りです。The story came from a play by the French writer Beaumarchais. Because it showed a servant getting the better of a nobleman, the play was banned in Vienna. Da Ponte cut the most political parts and turned it into an opera, and Emperor Joseph II allowed it. The overture starts quietly, almost secretly, and then bursts into a loud, exciting sound.

初演は成功し、初日から何曲もアンコールされました。その後の公演でもアンコールが続いたため、皇帝が「アンコールは独唱の曲だけ」という命令を出したほどでした。その年の暮れにはプラハで大ヒットし、モーツァルトは「ここではフィガロの話ばかり」と手紙に書いています。この成功から、次のオペラ『ドン・ジョヴァンニ』の注文が生まれました。The premiere was a success, with several numbers encored, and after even more encores at a later performance, the emperor ordered that only solo arias could be repeated. At the end of that year it became a huge hit in Prague, where, Mozart wrote, people talked about nothing but Figaro. This success led to a commission for his next opera, Don Giovanni.
