24の前奏曲より 第15番 変ニ長調「雨だれ」

ショパンの「24の前奏曲」の15曲目です。おだやかなメロディの下で、同じ1つの音がずっと「ポツン、ポツン」とくり返されるため、のちに「雨だれ」という愛称がつきました。この愛称は、ショパンが楽譜につけた題名ではありません。24曲の中でいちばん長い曲でもあります。This is No. 15 of Chopin's 24 Preludes. Under a calm melody, one single note repeats again and again, like drops of rain. Because of this, people later called it the "Raindrop" Prelude. The nickname was not a title that Chopin put on the score. It is also the longest of the 24 preludes.

前奏曲集は、1838年から1839年の冬、ショパンが作家ジョルジュ・サンドとスペインのマジョルカ島ですごしたころに仕上げられました。サンドはのちの回想録で、嵐の夜に帰ると、ショパンが雨の音を感じさせる前奏曲を弾いていたと書いています。ただし、それがどの曲かは書いていません。Chopin finished the Preludes in the winter of 1838–1839, when he stayed on the Spanish island of Majorca with the writer George Sand. Later, in her memoirs, Sand wrote that she came home on a stormy night and found Chopin playing a prelude that seemed full of falling rain. But she did not say which prelude it was.

曲は明るい変ニ長調で始まりますが、中間部では暗い短調になり、くり返す音が重い足音のように大きくなっていきます。やがて最初のメロディが戻り、静かに終わります。前奏曲集は1839年に出版され、いまではショパンの代表作として世界中で弾かれています。The piece begins in a gentle major key. In the middle it turns dark and minor, and the repeated note grows into something heavy, like slow footsteps. Then the first melody returns, and the music ends quietly. The Preludes were published in 1839, and today they are among Chopin's best-loved works.
