This shows that a single country's test can threaten people and satellites from all over the world. Furthermore, a ban would help to prevent conflict in space. Modern society depends on satellites for communication, navigation and weather forecasting. If countries keep showing that they can destroy satellites, others may feel they must develop the same weapons, which could lead to an arms race. Several countries, including Japan, have already promised not to carry out these tests. A worldwide ban is the next logical step.
