Although I understand the concerns of astronomers, I do not think the number of satellites in mega-constellations should be strictly limited. To begin with, these satellites bring fast internet to places that have never had a reliable connection, such as remote islands, mountain villages and ships at sea. When an earthquake destroys ground networks, satellite internet can also help people contact their families and call for rescue. Limiting these services would take important benefits away from millions of people. In addition, the problem for astronomy can be reduced without strict limits. Companies have already started using darker materials and sunshades to make their satellites less bright, and scientists are developing software that removes satellite trails from images. Some companies also share the exact positions of their satellites so that observations can be planned around them. In my opinion, cooperation between companies and astronomers is a better solution than strict limits on satellite numbers.
