I strongly believe that Japan should take a bigger role in international projects like Artemis. One reason is that Japan has world-class technology to offer. Japan already showed its skills when its SLIM spacecraft landed on the Moon with great precision in 2024. In addition, Japanese companies are famous for building reliable vehicles, and JAXA is working with Toyota to develop a pressurized rover in which astronauts will be able to drive on the Moon without spacesuits. Another reason is that a bigger role brings opportunities for Japanese people. Under an agreement with the United States, two Japanese astronauts are expected to land on the Moon on future Artemis missions. Such achievements would make young people proud and encourage them to choose careers in science and engineering. For these reasons, Japan should actively increase its contribution to international space exploration.
