マンドリン協奏曲 ハ長調

1979年の映画『クレイマー、クレイマー』では、第1楽章の明るいメロディーが使われました。離婚をめぐる父と幼い息子の物語で、アカデミー賞の作品賞にも輝いた映画です。250年以上前の協奏曲が、現代の家族のドラマにぴったり合ったのです。

The bright tune of the first movement is used in the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer. The film is about a father and his young son after a divorce, and it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. A concerto from more than 250 years earlier fit a modern family drama perfectly.

ヴィヴァルディの協奏曲は500曲をこえます。「同じ協奏曲を何百回も書いただけ」という皮肉が、ストラヴィンスキー（またはダッラピッコラ）の言葉として伝えられていますが、実際には、マンドリンのような楽器ごとに、音の特徴をよく考えて書き分けています。

Vivaldi wrote more than 500 concertos. A famous joke says he 'wrote the same concerto hundreds of times', and it is often credited to Stravinsky (or Dallapiccola). But in fact, Vivaldi thought carefully about the sound of each instrument, like the mandolin, and wrote for it in its own way.

マンドリンの名前は、イタリア語で「小さなマンドラ（リュートの仲間の楽器）」という意味です。今のマンドリンは弦を2本ずつ組にして張り、ピックではじきます。音がすぐ消えるので、長い音は同じ音をすばやくくり返す「トレモロ」で表すのが得意技です。

The name 'mandolin' comes from Italian and means 'little mandola', a lute-family instrument. Modern mandolins have their strings in pairs and are played with a pick. Because each note fades quickly, players often hold a long note by repeating it very fast. This is called tremolo.

ヴィヴァルディには、マンドリン2本のための協奏曲ト長調（RV 532）もあり、2人がおしゃべりするようにかけ合います。また、マンドリンやリコーダー、テオルボなど、めずらしい楽器がたくさん活躍する協奏曲（RV 558）も書いています。

Vivaldi also wrote a Concerto in G major for two mandolins (RV 532), where the two players talk back and forth. He even wrote a concerto (RV 558) that features many unusual instruments, including mandolins, recorders and theorbos.
