24の前奏曲 第24番 ニ短調

この曲は、ショパンの「24の前奏曲」の最後をかざる1曲です。24曲は、ピアノで使える24の調（音の高さのグループ）をすべて1回ずつ使っていて、長調とその仲間の短調がペアになって順番にならんでいます。そのしめくくりが、このはげしいニ短調の曲です。This is the last piece in Chopin's 24 Preludes. The set uses all 24 keys, one for each piece. Each major key is paired with its related minor key, and the pairs follow a fixed order. The journey ends here, with this fierce piece in D minor.

曲集が仕上がったのは、1838年から1839年の冬、ショパンが作家ジョルジュ・サンドとすごしたスペインのマヨルカ島です。古い修道院に住みましたが、もともとよくなかった体調が、寒く雨の多い天候のなかでさらに悪くなりました。この曲では、左手が大きく広がる音形を休まずくり返し、その上で右手が嵐のように歌い、上から下へ一気にかけおります。Chopin finished the set in the winter of 1838 to 1839 on the Spanish island of Majorca, where he stayed with the writer George Sand. They lived in an old monastery, and his already poor health got worse in the cold, rainy weather. In this piece the left hand repeats a wide, stretching pattern without a break. Above it, the right hand sings like a storm and rushes down the keyboard.

前奏曲集は1839年に出版されました。フランス版はピアノ会社の社長カミーユ・プレイエルに、ドイツ版は作曲家ケスラーにささげられています。最後は、ピアノでいちばん低いレの音が強く3回打ち鳴らされて終わります。24曲の旅を、これ以上ないほど劇的にしめくくる終わり方です。The Preludes were published in 1839. The French edition was dedicated to Camille Pleyel, the head of a piano company, and the German edition to the composer Joseph Christoph Kessler. The piece ends with the lowest D on the piano, struck three times very loudly. It is a dramatic way to close the whole journey.
