12の練習曲 Op.25 第7番 嬰ハ短調

ショパンはチェロ奏者フランショームと大の親友でした。ピアノ以外の楽器のための作品は少ないのに、チェロのための曲はいくつも書いています。生前に出版された最後の作品も、フランショームにささげたチェロ・ソナタでした。

Chopin was a close friend of the cellist Auguste Franchomme. He wrote few works for instruments other than piano, but he wrote several for cello. The last work published in his lifetime was a cello sonata dedicated to Franchomme.

多くの曲は右手のメロディーで始まりますが、この曲は左手が低い音でひとりで語るように始まります。オペラで歌手が話すように歌う「レチタティーヴォ」を思わせる始まり方で、聴く人をいきなり物語の中に引きこみます。

Many pieces begin with a right-hand melody, but this one starts with the left hand speaking alone in low notes. It recalls the recitative in opera, where a singer half speaks and half sings. It pulls you straight into the story.

ショパンはイタリアのオペラ歌手の歌い方を深く愛していました。この曲の上と下の2つの声は、まるで男性と女性の歌手が交わす二重唱。ピアノ1台で、2人の歌手の声を描き分ける練習なのです。

Chopin deeply loved the singing of Italian opera stars. The high and low voices in this piece are like a duet between two singers. It trains you to paint two singers' voices on a single piano.

テンポはゆっくりですが、2つのメロディーと伴奏の和音を、それぞれちがう大きさと音色で弾き分けるのはとてもむずかしいことです。さらにまん中では左手が速く大きくうねります。指の速さより、耳と心の力が試される曲です。

The tempo is slow, but playing two melodies and the chords at different volumes and colors is very hard. In the middle, the left hand also surges in fast notes. This piece tests your ears and heart more than your speed.
