アストゥリアス（伝説）

「アストゥリアス」は、スペインの作曲家・ピアニスト、イサーク・アルベニスのピアノ曲です。今ではクラシックギターの名曲として有名ですが、もとはピアノのために書かれました。ギターのかき鳴らしをまねたような、くり返す音と力強いリズムが特徴です。よく知られたギター版は、のちの人が編曲したものです。Asturias is a piano piece by the Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albéniz. Today it is famous as a classical guitar piece, but it was first written for piano. It has repeated notes and strong rhythms that copy the sound of a strumming guitar. The well-known guitar version was arranged later by other musicians.

この曲は1892年、ピアノ曲集「スペインの歌」の第1曲「前奏曲」として出版されました。「アストゥリアス（伝説）」という題名は、アルベニスが亡くなったあと、ドイツの出版社が「スペイン組曲」に組みこんで出版したときにつけたものです。アストゥリアスはスペイン北部の地方ですが、音楽はむしろ南部アンダルシアのフラメンコを思わせます。It was published in 1892 as the Prelude, the first piece of a piano set called Cantos de España. The title 'Asturias (Leyenda)' was given by a German publisher after Albéniz died, when it was added to his Suite española. Asturias is a region in northern Spain, but the music sounds more like flamenco from Andalusia in the south.

のちにギタリストたちがこの曲をギター用に編曲し、とくにアンドレス・セゴビアの演奏で世界中に広まりました。ギターで弾くととても自然に聞こえるため、今では「もとからギター曲だった」と思っている人も多いほどです。ピアノでもギターでも演奏される、スペイン音楽の代表曲になりました。Later, guitarists arranged it for guitar, and it spread around the world especially through the playing of Andrés Segovia. It sounds so natural on the guitar that many people now think it was always a guitar piece. It has become one of the best-known pieces of Spanish music, played on both piano and guitar.
