Personally, I think humans should continue to send messages into space. Firstly, such messages encourage us to think about who we are. When scientists created the Voyager Golden Records in 1977, they had to decide which sounds, music, and images best represented life on Earth. This process made people reflect on what humanity values, such as music, language, and family. Even if no one ever finds a message, creating it teaches us something about ourselves. Secondly, the risk is extremely small. Space is so vast that a message may take thousands of years to reach another civilization, if one exists at all. Meanwhile, Earth has been leaking radio and TV signals into space for about a century anyway. A carefully designed message is a peaceful way to say hello to the universe. For these reasons, I believe sending messages is a meaningful and worthwhile project.
