Should the Apollo landing sites on the Moon be protected as heritage sites?

I strongly agree that the Apollo landing sites should be protected as heritage sites. The first reason is their enormous historical value. Between 1969 and 1972, twelve astronauts walked on the Moon, and the footprints, equipment, and flags they left behind are physical evidence of one of humanity's greatest achievements. Because the Moon has no wind or rain, these traces could last for an extremely long time unless people disturb them. Once destroyed, they could never be replaced. The second reason is that more countries and companies are now sending missions to the Moon. Without clear rules, a rover could accidentally drive over the first human footprints, or future visitors might take objects home as souvenirs. Just as we protect ancient temples and pyramids on Earth, we should treat the landing sites with respect. In conclusion, the Apollo sites deserve protection for future generations.

I think the Apollo landing sites should be protected. First, they are very important in history. The astronauts' footprints are still there because there is no wind on the Moon. Second, more countries are sending robots to the Moon now. A rover might break these things by mistake. We protect old temples on Earth, so we should protect the Moon sites, too.

  • The Moon does not belong to any one country, so it is unclear who has the right to make and enforce protection rules.
  • Strict protection zones could limit scientific research, since engineers could learn a lot from studying how old equipment has changed over time.
