I do not believe it is ethical to have children in space, at least not with our current knowledge. First, we know very little about how space affects a growing body. Adults who stay on the International Space Station lose bone and muscle mass, and they are exposed to higher levels of radiation than on Earth. For a baby or child whose body is still developing, these effects could be much more serious and might cause lifelong health problems. Second, a child born in space cannot choose that life. Adult astronauts accept the risks themselves, but a child would be forced into a dangerous and limited environment without being asked. Such a child might even find it difficult to live on Earth later, because their body would not be used to its gravity. Until science can guarantee the safety of children, humans should not raise families in space.
