In my view, using animals in space experiments is generally not acceptable. First, animals cannot agree to take part. Human astronauts choose to accept the dangers of spaceflight, but a mouse or a dog has no choice at all. The story of Laika, the Soviet dog who was sent into orbit in 1957 and never came back, still makes many people feel sad and uncomfortable. Second, there are now better alternatives in many cases. Scientists can study cells grown in the laboratory, use computer models, or collect data from astronauts themselves, who are carefully monitored during long missions on the International Space Station. These methods can answer many questions without causing animals stress or pain. Of course, some research may still be difficult without animals, but such cases should be rare and strictly controlled. Overall, I believe we should move away from animal experiments in space.
