In my opinion, building a permanent base on the Moon is a good idea. To begin with, the Moon is an ideal place to practice living in space. It is only about three days away from Earth, so if something goes wrong, astronauts can return home much more quickly than from Mars. A lunar base would let us test housing, life-support systems, and teamwork before we travel deeper into space. In addition, a base would allow scientists to stay on the Moon for long periods and study it in detail. For example, there may be water ice near the lunar South Pole. If people can turn it into drinking water, oxygen, and even rocket fuel, future missions will become cheaper and safer. Some people worry about the cost, but the knowledge we gain will be valuable for generations. Therefore, I support building a permanent lunar base.
